Nelson's Philanderings

Next year is the two hundred year anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar and the death of Admiral Lord Nelson (October 21, 1805).

Noble Caledonia Cruises has put together a 12-day cruise taking in Nelson's battlegrounds and the scenes of his philanderings with Lady Hamilton.

The cruise, Nelson - Man and Legend, is aboard the Island Sky (112 passengers) and will depart from Valetta in Malta on April 27, calling at Taormina (where Nelson was given a house and estate by the King of Naples), Palermo (where his friendship with Emma Hamilton became a love affair), La Maddalena in Sardinia (where he sheltered his fleet during the battle of Toulon) and Elba (which he captured in 1796).

Other ports of call include Calvi and Bastia in Corsica, and Motril (for Grenada) in Spain. From there, the ship will sail across the Trafalgar battleground to Cadiz. Pieter van der Merwe, from the National Maritime Museum, will be lecturing on board and berths cost from $5200.- per person, including flights and some shore excursions.
